Street Trends Final

I had a lot of fun completing this assignment and I thought it would be cool to put the new street trends first. Enjoy!

New Trend: Everyday Hamptons
So often, when we talk about new trends, we only think of women's fashion. I thought it would be cool to pinpoint a new mens trend. Everyday Hamptons is what I'm calling it and it has become exceedingly popular among men in pop culture. The general idea seems to be to dress like you're moneyed in the Hamptons. Everyone from Kanye West to Scott Disick is picking up the trend. Boat shoes, loafers, light colored, casual suits, and man bags are staples of the look!

New Trend: Sock Rockin'

Lately, I have noticed a number of fashionable women rocking socks with their heels. I'm talking some of fashions heaviest hitters in socks with heels. This is something that had, up until this point, been universally panned. Now that Sarah Jessica Parker, Rihanna, and Leighton Meester have been seen in the trend it's popping up all over. Here are a few designers who have helped spur it on!

As Seen on the Runway:
Bruberry Spring 2010
Marc Jacobs Fall 2010
John Galliano Spring 2011

Trend: Mod
The look on Twiggy, above is very 60's, very Mod.

As Seen on Today's Runways:

Chris Benz Spring 2011
The look on the left above actually bears a striking resemblance to the one Twiggy wears above it. The one one the right is also very Mod. The muted colored pants and bell sleeved shirt is a great example of the mod look.
This look, from Missoni Resort, 2009, also has a very Mod feel. The straight up and down silhouette and wide sleeves are right on.

Trend: Disco
This is a picture of the disco days of Studio 54!

As Seen on Today's Runway:
Gucci Fall 2009
This look is so disco dance club. The shimmering fabric and long necklaces just scream disco!
This look, from Balmain Fall 2009, is disco turned up! The short dress will make it hard to dance, but the disco ball like shine and strong shoulder will keep all eyes on the model!

Trend: Hippie

As Seen on Today's Runway:

A high-waist, side head band, wedge sandal, and tied belt with fringe, from Badgeley Mischka, Spring 2011, all have a hippie meets chic vibe. The bell-bottom cut pants are an added bonus!

This look, from Emilio Pucci, Spring 2011, is so 70's and so hippie. The light, flowing fabric and bright color are perfectly hippie and the paisley print which transitions into a tie-dye look at the bottom completes the hippie feel!

Trend: Hip Hop

Above, LL Cool J, sports a semi-baggy sweat suit with a bucket hat and gold chains. This look is a perfect representation of the Hip Hop Trend!

As Seen on Today's Runway:

I think this is what people think of when they think Hiphop however, no one really dresses like this anymore. The complete looks don't really say hip hop, but broken down, the hats, jacket, blazer, and semi baggy shorts are mildly representative of the trend. Both looks are from Dsquared, Spring 2010.

Trend: Punk

As Seen o Today's Runway:

This look, from Dsquared, Fall 2010, exudes Punk! The chains, leather, collar, and black eye-liner is a bit over the top for the trend but it definitely hits the nail on the head.

This look, from Julien Macdonald, Fall 2009 also has a very Punk vibe. Again, leather and silver spike, give this look a very edgy, punk feel.

Trend: Teddy BoysThis is a great example of the Teddy Boys trend. The velvet collar was a staple of the trend.

As Seen on Today's Runway:

This look, from Bespoken's Spring 2011 collection is a very literal interpretation of the Teddy Boy look. The lines, and cut are actually a lot cleaner than the Teddy Boy look of yore.

This look, from the Loden Dager, Spring 2011 is a great example of the Beatnik trend. The darker lapels (I don't think the collar is velvet) and casual fit are very consistent with the original trend.

Trend: BeatnikAudrey Hepburn's outfit epitomizes the Beatnik look of the time. Slim, cropped pants, all black, ballet flats.

As Seen on Today's Runway
This look from Isabel Marant's Fall 2010 Collection has a very Beatnik vibe to it. The skinny legged capris, black shoes, and cinched waist are reminiscent of the outfit Audrey Hepburn wears above.
This look, from Agnes B Spring 2011 is a little less obvious in it's interpretation of the Beatnik trend. However, the loafers, rolled pants, and beret were very common during the height of the trend.

Trend: Zoot Suits
The men on the left and right are wearing Zoot Suits. The long coats, high-waisted pants, and tight cuffs are representative of the trend.

As Seen on Today's Runways:

I think it's always interesting to see how a masculine trend is interpreted in womens clothes. In this look, from Limi Feu's Spring 2011 collection, the tight cuffs, over-sized jacket, and seemingly high waist (it is a jump suit, after all) make for a very Zoot Suit feel.In Spring 2009, Limi Feu went for a much more literal interpretation of the look, opting for a high-waist, tight cuffs, and over-sized jacket, again, on a woman!
